Singing For Seniors

The Superheroes embarked on their final mission of the year.  With all the publicity we have been getting to keep our identities secret we had to hide our capes under our coats.  Or it might have been because it was raining and we didn’t want to get our capes wet.  Either way we tied our capes on and headed out to spread some kindness.  The mission of the day was to sing a few Christmas songs at the Neal Senior Center.  Once we were ready we made the short trek from our headquarters at St. Mary’s School to the Senior Center.  Dodging puddles and cracks so as not to “break momma’s back,” we made it to the center ready to spread smiles.  Once inside, like Super Man in a phone booth, we shed our coats revealing our capes and started spreading smiles.
We said a kind hello to the person working the front desk and made our way into the dining room to the stage where we were going to perform.  Along the way we said hello and shared smiles with everyone we passed.  With a short introduction and some lining up we were ready to sing.  With voices in prime form the Superheroes sang 3 different Christmas carols for all those to hear.  After each song the audience applauded making us smile and sing with even more spirit.  Not only did the Superheroes spread kindness but received some in return and they appreciated it.
After our third song our time at the Senior Center was nearly complete.  On our way out we took some time to walk around the tables with the people and wish them a Merry Christmas.  The people at the senior center were fantastic and even rewarded and thanked the Superheroes with a mini cupcake for each of them.  On our way back to headquarters we dodged the same puddles and cracks but this time filled with kindness in our hearts and smiles on our faces.

This may have been the Superheroes last mission of the year but we are far from done spreading kindness to the people of Nevada.  So after the first of the year keep your eyes out for the kids in capes because with the new year comes mission and many ,many, more smiles.

Happy Birthday Superheroes

Our latest mission was one we had to keep under our capes because it was a total surprise, and with all the press we have been getting lately it was hard to do.  The Superheroes pulled it off though!!  December 15th was the 1st “Birthday” of the original Superheroes of Kindness in Montana, so we decided to wish the creator, Kristal Burns, a Happy Birthday.  I had set up a skype session with Kristal to see how things were going and to thank her myself for all she has done; that is when my Superheroes came in.  Much to her surprise, and I must admit a little surprise to my Superheroes, we made it a group chat.  It took awhile for the Superheroes to realize the person on the screen was real and they could talk with her and she could talk with them.  After the initial shock was over we had a little fun.
The first thing we did was sing her Happy Birthday.  Kristal was so amazed with the singing skills and she had heard a lot of good things about how well they sang she requested another song.  So per her request we then sang We Wish You A Merry Christmas, which was also done very well.  After singing came the question and answer period.  We learned a lot about Kristal as did she about each of the Superheroes.  As an added bonus each of the Superheroes got an opportunity to introduce themselves to Kristal and give her their own hello.   After the introductions Kristal had a couple special requests for the Superheroes.  The first was to see all the Superheroes’ capes in all of their glory which was easily done.  The second was much more difficult and must say only a Superhero could pull it off.  The Superheroes pulled off the first high five from Missouri to Montana it was to put it quite honestly AWESOME!!
Overall the mission was a total success and Kristal was totally surprised and I hope that we made her day.  Without her and her Superheroes, our group would not exist.  So this mission was very special to me and I hope that we get to do this for many more years to come.  So once again HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUPERHEROES and keep spreading the kindness, and a HUGE THANK YOU to Kristal for creating the group we have all come to love!!

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.  ~Leo Buscaglia

Superheroes Television Debut

Today the Superheroes strapped on their capes and got ready for their close up!  That's right the Superheroes are making their television debut tonight.  Katie Love(pictured to the left) from KSN/KODE came to meet the Superheroes today.  The Superheroes were working on a project for their next mission as Katie filmed the group.  She even interviewed a couple of the Superheroes on what they were doing and how they liked their capes.
After speaking with the kids I got a chance to sit down with Katie and expalin the Superheroes and what we do.  I also talked a little bit about how the group was started and some of the things we have coming up in the future.  It should be a great piece and fun to watch!!  I hope Katie had as much fun filming as the Superheroes did being on camera!!  The Superheroes want to thank Katie and KSN/KODE for taking time to come see us, and we hope she comes back again real soon!!
The piece will air at 6pm on both KSN and KODE and again at 10pm on KSN.  So you might want to find these stations on you tv and set the DVR this is one program you don't want to miss.  But just in case you do happen to miss it, it will posted on their website.  Once it is on the website I will post a link here on our blog for all of you to access.

Nevada Daily Mail

I just want to take a moment again now to thank everyone that has been a part of the Superheroes thus far.  There is a lot of stuff that has to happen to make a mission happen and I appreciate all of their help so dearly.  Also all the work it takes to get the word out on our facebook page and the City of Nevada's website.  I want all of those people to know that their hard work does not go unnoticed!!

I am also amazed at all the people that have come over to read the Blog this response has been overwhelming never in my wildest dreams did I think my little group of Superheroes would have this much effect on so many people.  I knew we could do some big things here in Nevada but now I hope our good work spreads far beyond our city limits.

Thanks again for coming by to read my Blog and remember to check back often because you never know what we will be up to next!!

Nevada Superheroes First Mission

The cold weather was no contest for the warmth in the Superheroes hearts today.  We put on our winter coats, gloves, hats, and of course our capes and set out to fill the City of Nevada with kindness and love.  Our mission was to thank Ms. Skouby from the Nine Patch Quilt & Fabrics store (seen in the picture to the right with her thank you) for donating the fabric for our capes.  Because as everyone knows you can't be a Superhero without a cape.  We gave Ms. Skouby a nice framed Thank-You with a couple pictures of all the Superheroes in their capes.  Also to Thank her we sang her a few Christmas carols.  She was very grateful for the offerings and wished us well and gave the Superheroes some good advice on spreading kindness.

Of course on our way to to thank Ms. Skouby we had to spread some good cheer to those we met along the way.  We waved at the ladies at the bank working the drive up window.  We also gave a wave to the kind people that waited for us to cross the street.  We also got a few hi's and hellos from those just driving around and wanted to thank us for what we were doing.  Needless to say we turned a lot of heads today and made a lot of people smile.  We were bucket fillers at our finest.

All in all it was a great first mission for the Nevada Missouri Superheroes when we got back to our fortress we were ready to take on another mission.  So keep checking back because someday soon the Superheroes may be dropping in on you to spread the special kind of love!!

Missouri Superheroes of Kindness started

I am so pleased to announce that we have formed the Nevada Missouri Superheroes of Kindness.  It has been a long few months to get the program off the ground and spreading kindness throughout Nevada, Missouri.  There are a few people that we need to thank right off the start.

First is Erica Skouby with Nine Patch Quilt & Fabrics.  She donated the material and thread to make all of the capes for the Superheroes!!  Because you can not be a Superhero without a cape.  She will also be the first to be visited by the Superheroes because our first mission will to be to thank her for all of her kindness.  Also to the staff at the Nevada Community Center for the hours they put in cutting out and sewing the capes together.

Second is St. Mary's School for being a part of the program.  A BIG THANK YOU to Ms. Megan and all of her help in getting the group together.  Today I got to meet the new Superheroes and read them the book "Have You Filled a Bucket Today"by Carol McCloud which explains to them how to spread kindness and be a bucket filler.  They all seemed to grasp the concept and were ready to put on their capes and spread kindness.  Thanks again to all the staff at the school for all their help and understanding.

The last and definetly not least is Kristal Burns the originator of the Superheroes in Montana.  She has been such a great help and inspiration to me and I know I could not have done this without her.  Countless emails, questions and pep talks to help me through getting my Superheroes organized.  Also just getting her permission to use the Superheroes of Kindness name is huge.  I can not thank Kristal and her group of Superheroes enough.

We are very grateful to everyone that has helped our Superheroes get started and we are eager to spread kindness throughout the City of Nevada so check this blog often and keep a look out you never know when you might run into one of our Superheroes and have your day blessed with a smile!!
